Bible Verses and Quotes to Revitalize Your Trust in God

Trust

Dictionary definitions view trust as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.

Trust stirs up feelings of confidence, belief, certainty, sureness, conviction, and even faith.

Trusting someone or something means you can believe in, bank on, swear by, and yes, have faith in.

Trust involves choice and even a little vulnerability. Once you decide to trust, certain outcomes are beyond your control.

I trust Barb to be faithful.

I trust that the money in the bank will be there when I need it.

I trust the roof will keep the rain out of my house.

But sometimes your trust is violated. The bank goes under. The roof springs a leak. When those things occur, it can be hard to trust again. It's the old "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Trust in God

Right now, would you say that you believe in God? It would be difficult to try to trust in what you don't believe. We can see the bank and we can inspect the roof. But God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit (see John 4:24). That certainly takes trust to a whole new level.

If you believe in God, the next question would be about your level of trust in Him. As believers, we are told to "trust in the Lord" and to "have faith in God". Do you? And why should you?

Have you ever doubted God, or His willingness to intercede on your behalf? It's okay. I admit I have. We all do. Even the apostles who operated daily in His presence sometimes had doubts. That's all part of the human equation. No truer phrase exists than we must "walk by faith, and not by sight."

Before I give you the promised quotes and Bible verses to steady your trust in God, I want to highlight some reasons why you should trust Him.

Here are several reasons I choose to trust in God:

  • God is God, and I am not
  • God has a great track record for fulfilling His promises
  • God knows what I need before I do
  • God knows when I need it better than I do
  • God sees the big picture and every conceivable outcome
  • God is perfect
  • God is worthy of my trust
  • God is capable of anything
  • God is infinitely wise
  • God cannot lie, so what He says He'll do will be done
  • God loves me

Personal disclosure: I have all those reasons to trust God and I still fall short sometimes.

When I lost a job I enjoyed after 2 decades, my trust took a hit.
When I lost my son to Covid-19, my trust took a hit.

The key was that the hits were just dents. I pounded out those dents and put a fresh shine on my trust in God through prayer, Bible verses, positive quotes, and faith. I had to choose faith and trust over fear and worry. Since we all go through varying levels of trust, I wanted to share some of my favorite quotes and Bible verses here.

Bonus

Sometimes a song will help get your trust back to strong. Here's one that always helps me:

Hardships and challenges will threaten to separate you from your trust in God. Storms are a fact of life. They hit everybody. Just remember that you don't have to face them alone.

Final Thoughts on Trusting God

What challenges cause you to doubt God? Do you sometimes think that God has abandoned you? I have been there. When that happens, move quickly from that spot, and turn back to a point of trust.

Those choppy waves of doubt will come. Keep your eyes on the One that calms the seas. Those rough waters expose what your foundation is built on. May your foundation be fortified with faith and trust.
